Last year, I was part of an archeological field school that excavated a revolutionary war era fort. I plan to go into greater detail into this in the future, giving my stories and commentary about my favorite artefacts from the site. For now, though, all you need to know was that I was a student excavator and researcher on the project.
Today, I approached the director and inquired about doing an archeology research project involving analysis and interpretation of the artefacts. I pitched that my subject of interest would be in focusing on the domestic life of the fort, rather than the military aspects. He was really fond of the idea, pointing out that women and children likely lived alongside men, and we could look at items such as eating utensils and buttons to put together a more concrete story.
This project relies on the archeology laboratory to finish completion, and for the artefacts to be fully cleaned, labeled, and organized. For this reason, it may well be a year to two years before I can begin organizing my project. But I’m very excited to start producing research into the world of archeology.
